Munroe Island has its own railway station: Munroe Thuruthu (Station Code: MQO). Several passenger and MEMU trains running on the Kollam–Kottayam and Kollam–Ernakulam routes stop directly here.
Travel time from Kollam Junction (QLN) is just 20 minutes (fare: ₹10–₹30). From Varkala Sivagiri (VAK), take an express train to Kollam and switch to the local passenger, or take a direct auto/taxi.
From Kollam City (25 km): Takes approximately 45–55 minutes via Kundara. An auto-rickshaw costs around ₹600–₹800; a private cab costs ₹1,200–₹1,500.
From Varkala Cliff (45 km): Takes 1 hour 20 minutes by private taxi (approx. ₹1,800–₹2,200). Very popular as a morning day-trip.
State Water Transport Department (SWTD) passenger ferries connect Kollam DTPC boat jetty directly to Munroe Island. The slow 2.5-hour boat ride costs less than ₹30 and offers a classic public backwater commute.
